West Bloomfield, Mich.-based Two Muses Theatre, a nonprofit, professional theatre is partnering with the Michigan Humane Society to present Sylvia by A.R. Gurney, a modern romantic comedy about a marriage and a dog. The show will be performed on Friday and Saturday evenings from June 8-July 1, as well as Sunday matinees. There will be one Saturday matinee on June 9 and no Sunday matinee on June 10. Two Muses Theatre performs in the 160-seat theatre inside the Barnes & Noble Booksellers, located at 6800 Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield (south of Maple).
Directed by Two Muses co-founder, Diane Hill, the show features Two Muses co- founder, Barbie Weisserman, as Sylvia, the dog. Weisserman played the role many years ago with The Farmington Players. “I was a puppy of sorts when I played the role before,” said Weisserman. “Now I have a more mature understanding of the special relationships that dogs have with their owners.” Director Hill, adds: “I love this show, because we all talk to our pets, and we believe they are communicating back, but in this show, you actually get to hear what the dog has to say.”
In addition to Weisserman (Farmington Hills), the cast features John DeMerell (Walled Lake) as Greg, Nancy Cooper (Farmington) as Kate, Joshua Brown (Brownstown) as Tom, Maggie Gilkes (Farmington Hills) as Leslie and Jan Cartwright (Novi) as Phyllis.
Two Muses partners with the Michigan Humane Society on this production to raise funds and adoption awareness for the organization. The support of Two Muses Theatre ticket buyers helps the Humane Society to continue providing medical care and advocating for the welfare of all kinds of animals.
