The New Theatre Project is thrilled to present its first original musical. The American Crowbar Case features music by local artists Match by Match and is created by the band's front man Gray Bouchard with a book by Jason Sebacher. Pay-what-you-can previews take place on September 30-October 1 at 8 pm with regular performances on October 7-23, Fridays through Sundays at 8 pm with additional 2 pm matinees on Sundays.

In 1848, a spike was blasted through Phineas Gage's skull, turning most of his frontal lobe into jelly. But that's the least of his problems. Now he's got a second chance and doesn't know quite what to do with himself. The American Crowbar Case is a whirlwind new indie-folk musical that follows Gage, his fiancé, his mistress, and two contemporary scholars across time and space as they all cope with the burden of new beginnings. Nobody knows exactly what happened to Gage, including himself. Though, after all, the truths of the human heart and mind-even historical fact-are ultimately unknowable in the world of The American Crowbar Case.

The cast features Peter Giessl as Phineas Gage with Julia Garlotte, Melissa Coppola, Jamie Weeder, Dan Johnson, and Gray Bouchard. American Crowbar is directed by TNTP Artistic Director Keith Paul Medelis with music direction by Melissa Coppola and choreography by Ben Stange.

The New Theatre Project is located at 130 W. Michigan Ave. in Ypsilanti at the Mix Studio Theater. Mix, a new and used clothing boutique, is open for business prior to all performances.

Tickets are $15 and $10 for students/seniors/and industry. Tickets can be reserved by calling or texting The New Theatre Project box office at (734) 645-9776 or emailing tickets@thenewtheatreproject.org. TNTP now accepts credit cards.
