The "New" McCree Theatre has established a special group rate for local churches to enable its senior members and youth to attend Charles H. Winfrey's new soul stirring musical, Ladies and Gentlemen...Presenting the Gospelettes, running November 26 through December 18, 2010 at the theatre, 5005 Cloverlawn Drive at Pierson Road. Special rates include $5.00 per person for youth and senior citizens 60 years of age and older for church groups of 15 or more. A local church, for example, can send a van load of 15 seniors and youth to the play for only $75.00. We will admit the driver free.

Ladies and Gentlemen...Presenting the Gospelettes

Music for the Gospelettes is written and arranged by Lannie Spann McBride, the gospel virtuoso from Jackson, MS. Ms. Spann-McBride has blessed the production with over 20 original songs and arrangements. The production cast was also fortunate enough to have Ms. Spann-McBride visit Flint for a two week period to personally teach her music to the cast and musicians.

McBride is Minister of Music at Fairview Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. She is a retired Jackson public school teacher, author, and gospel music consultant. She is currently an adjunct professor of music at Jackson State University. Ms. McBride received her undergraduate degree in Voice and Piano from Tougaloo College and her Masters Degree in Music Education from Jackson State University. She has served as state-wide music consultant for the Martin Luther King Celebration for the State of Mississippi. In addition to her faculty position at Jackson State University, she has served as Jackson State's consultant for the Children's Music Workshop. The workshop has featured original compositions by McBride with the Mississippi Children's Choir. One of her most popular compositions is the gospel recording, Inside Out. McBride served as a music consultant for the film, Mississippi Burning. Her credits in the film also include a soundtrack recording of the song "Walk on By Faith."

traces the turbulent trail of the fictitious gospel singing group, the Gospelettes, from their early days with Johnnie Gospel, through bumpy roads, to the point where there were two Gospelette singing groups. A question that weaves itself throughout the play is: should gospel groups sing for the Lord, or for the money? McCree Theatre's outstanding cast includes Tezell Morris, Gwen Hemphill, Whitney Frierson, Jontise Samuels, Bridgette Copedge, Marquawan Burnett, Robin Moore, and Mariah Brandon. It is directed by Cathy E. Johnson, with music directed by Phillip Young.
