The Dio - Dining & Entertainment, Livingston County's professional, award winning dinner theatre, is excited to present a musical with a cult-like following of fans, The Wild Party by Andrew Lippa, based on the poem by Joseph Moncure March, directed by Steve DeBruyne with music direction by Brian Rose.
A steamy prohibition tale, steamrolling and roaring its way across the stage, Andrew Lippa's Wild Party was an Off-Broadway gem that garnered an array of industry accolades, including Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Obie awards. Based on Joseph Moncure March's 1928 narrative poem of the same name, this darkly brilliant show features one of the most exciting, pulse-racing scores ever written.
Lovers Queenie and Burrs decide to throw the party-to-end-all-parties in their Manhattan apartment. After the colorful arrival of a slew of guests living life on the edge, Queenie's wandering eyes land on a striking man named Black. But as the decadence is reaching a climax, so is Burrs' jealousy.
Director Steve DeBruyne says, "After having successful Dio runs of Rock of Ages, an adult musical comedy, and Cabaret, a musical drama, we were confident that our audience would be open to another adults-only musical, one that uses a nice mix of both drama and comedy. And so, after five years of The Dio, we are pleased to bring the decadence and excess of Andrew Lippa's Wild Party to our stage, and culminate an 18 year love of the show for me personally."
Featuring the largest cast of The Dio's 2018 season, The Wild Party includes performances by Lydia Adams, Logan Balcom, Aurora Batton, Sarah Brown, Brian E. Buckner, Xavier Bush, Steve DeBruyne, Quentin Fettig, Elizabeth Jaffe, Lauren Landman, Mark Mazzullo, David Moan, Mike Sandusky, Carrie Jay Sayer, Jared Schneider, Monica Spencer and Mark Vukelic.
Performances take place at The Dio, 177 E. Main Street, Pinckney Michigan, 48169 from August 24 through October 7, 2018, Friday and Saturday evenings, and Sunday afternoons. There will be two weeknight performances, Thursday, August 23 and Thursday, October 4.
All tickets include dinner, dessert and non-alcoholic beverages. The menu for The Wild Party includes Waldorf salad with apples, grapes, celery and dried cranberries, freshly baked and buttered dinner rolls, roaring smashed potatoes (because it's not a party until someone gets smashed), a flavorful blend of sautéed fresh vegetables served with long grain white rice, hand carved applewood baked ham, and of course, The Dio's signature chicken - hand battered and fried to a golden brown, plus dessert!
Tickets for all performances are available now and September be purchased by visiting diotheatre.com or by calling (517) 672-6009. Seating is limited. Advance reservations are strongly recommended.
