Theatre and Dance at Wayne is excited to welcome audiences as it embarks on its 55th season. On Friday, September 29th, the season officially opens with Steve Martin's uproarious comedy The Underpants, adapted from the classic German farce by Carl Sternheim. Everyone in the Metropolitan Detroit area is invited to enjoy a raucous evening of chaotic fun, as they watch the tale of an embarrassing public mishap, and the zany chaos that follows.

Louise, a housewife living in turn-of-the-century Germany, finds herself stifled by the strict confines of her lackluster marriage. After suffering a wardrobe malfunction at a Sunday afternoon parade, her life suddenly takes an exciting turn as her risqué display has multiple suitors vying for her attention right under her unobservant husband's nose. Themes of modesty, marriage, and the trappings of domesticity are all called into question as Louise experiences an exciting whirlwind melodrama in her own life.

Guest director Scotty Arnold (When We're Gone - National Alliance for Musical Theater, That Time We Found A Sasquatch in the Woods - Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, founding member - Musical Theater Factory) is excited to be working with the Hilberry Theatre Company on this fun and unique piece. Of particular interest to him is the fact that "it's an exciting time to tell the story of a woman discovering her power. Steve Martin's hilarious and poignant adaptation dusts off this [classic German satire] and lets us laugh all the way home."

The Underpants is a farcical and uproarious start to the 55th season at Theatre and Dance at Wayne. Providing the perfect combination of comedic escapism and a surprising amount of relevance, it is certain to please all audiences. Full season subscriptions as well as individual tickets for The Underpants are now on sale to the public.
