THE PROBLEM OF CELL 13, a world premiere mystery by John Arden McClure, continues the 30th Season of Dennis Wickline Productions, Inc. at Eastpointe's Broadway Onstage Live Theatre when it opens on Friday, January 7. Running Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Select Sundays at 2pm through Saturday, February 5, this mystery production based upon the works of Jacques Futrelle, introduces us to eccentric Professor Augustus S.F.X. Van Dusen and his claim that he can remove himself from Cell 13 in Chisholm prison with just his wits to guide him.

Select Sunday Matinees are only performed at Broadway Onstage when a prearranged group of 30 or more is scheduled to attend. Broadway Onstage Live Theatre is located at 21517 Kelly Rd. at Toepfer (8 ½ Mile Rd.) in Eastpointe. The theatre is also the home of the patented TeeVeeStageTM Presentation system, which employs cameras above the audience and monitors above the stage to provide audience members with different viewing perspectives of the live stage performance. Broadway Onstage Live Theatre is also the home of Dennis Wickline Productions, Inc., which began producing Non-Equity professional live theatre on the Eastside of Detroit in February of 1980.

THE PROBLEM OF CELL 13, taking place at the beginning of the twentieth century here in the United States, tells the story of an eccentric professor who has a chance encounter with the Warden of Chisholm prison, Charles Ransome. During the encounter, Professor S.F.X. Van Dusen saves the life of Anne Hatch, a young reporter who has mistakenly poisoned herself. It is during that encounter that Van Dusen makes the claim that he can break out of any jail cell in a week using just his mind. Ransome takes him up on the claim, and locks him into Cell 13, the cell for condemned prisoners at Chisholm prison. Whether or not Van Dusen can make good on his claim, and how he attempts to do it, becomes the basis for a very entertaining evening of theatre.

The cast of THE PROBLEM OF CELL 13 is exceptional. Portraying Professor S.F.X. Van Dusen is the author of the play, John Arden McClure. Mr. McClure has performed in a number of productions at Broadway Onstage, including SHERLOCK HOLMES IS COMING TO DINNER this past fall in which he portrayed Sherlock Holmes. Donald Couture, Watson in SHERLOCK HOLMES IS COMING TO DINNER, takes on the role of Warden Ransome. Sarah Lynne Oravetz, who was seen at Broadway Onstage this past fall as Ophelia in THE LAST GREAT BRITISH SEX FARCE EVER! will be seen as reporter Anne Hatch. Patrick O'Lear, Archie in THE LAST GREAT BRITISH SEX FARCE EVER! takes on the role of Alfred Fielding, the head guard at Chisholm Prison. CharLes Davis completes the cast as Joseph Ballard, a strange inmate at the prison with a dark secret. Mr. Davis was seen at Broadway Onstage as Stu last spring in THE SCOTTISH PLAY. The production is under the able direction of Dennis Wickline, who is the producer of all shows at Broadway Onstage and was just seen as Hector in THE NUTCRACKER'S NUTS there.

Tickets for Opening Night Friday, January 7 are $14. Tickets for all other performances are $16. Group Rates and Performances are available. Again, Broadway Onstage is located at 21517 Kelly Rd. at

Toepfer (8 1/2 Mile Rd.) in Eastpointe, Michigan. Ticket Reservations are recommended by calling (586) 771-6333.
