Performance Network is proud to announce THE PLAY'S THE THING, a summer acting class for children ages 7 to 11. The class, taught by Children's Theatre Network Director Becky Fox and writer/actor/instructor Ann Rhoades, will begin on June 15th, with classes at 4:30-6:00 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays at Performance Network Theatre.

Over the course of these five weeks, students will create a play of their own, and perform it on the final day of class for family and friends. The children will build valuable skills, and they'll be having so much fun they won't want the class to end!

The class will stress innovation, self-esteem, and teamwork, as students participate in activities regarding improvisation and play creation. Physical warm-ups and vocal exercises will also be a regular part of the class, helping to solidify each student's early theatre training.

Becky Fox is the director of The Children's Theatre Network touring and outreach program at Performance Network and is a veteran actor, director and instructor. Anne Rhoades has worked with The Children's Theatre Network as an actor, writer and producer for over ten years and as an instructor in children's drama at Ann Arbor Recreation and Education.

The class fee is $100 for ten sessions. The class must be reserved in advance at the Performance Network Box Office at 734.663.0681, at becky@performancenetwork.org or by coming to the Performance Network Theatre (120 East Huron St., Ann Arbor) Monday-Saturday 11am - 6pm.

Founded in 1981, Performance Network Theatre has grown from a fledgling company to Ann Arbor's only resident professional theatre. The Network reaches 40,000 theatre patrons and children each year through the year-round Professional Series and The Children's Theatre Network. Performance Network also presents the Fireside Festival of New Works and a series of classes on theatre-related topics. The Network provides uncompromising artistic leadership in the region and produces works that engage, challenge and inspire audiences and artists.
