Todd Hissong and Morgan Breon in THE KISS OF THE SUN FOR PARDON at the Detroit Repertory Theatre. About the play THE KISS OF THE SUN FOR PARDON is a comedic drama about two unlikely roommates. Oriel is a young woman, a much abused, barefoot, African American loner with a quick temper. She answers an ad for food and lodging at T-Bone's single story house and seedy yard.
T-Bone is an obese, wheelchair bound, white, redneck in his mid-sixties who has a cranky temper but loves his orchids and his coupons. The price for Oriel's food and lodging is taking care of T-Bone's household needs -- no wages and no other demands. On the surface the two seem to be polar opposites in every way, but they turn out to be more alike than either one is able or willing to admit.
The relationship is a tumultuous love/hate story about dreams deferred and the fickle hand of fate, a heart wrenching human entanglement -- sometimes funny, sometimes mean, sometimes touching and always unpredictable.
THE KISS OF THE SUN FOR PARDON is directed by Resident Company Member, Leah Smith. Last season Ms. Smith won the Subscriber Best Director/Best Play Award for her direction of MY OCCASION OF SIN. Her cast consists of Todd Hissong as T-Bone, Morgan Breon as Oriel and Mark Halpin as Wally.
Michael Joseph will stage manage the production; Harry Wetzel is the set designer; Judy Dery will design the costumes; Tom Schraeder is the lighting designer; Burr Huntington is the sound designer.
