As a cold winter sets in, Slipstream Theatre Initiative adds to the chill with a haunting new take on Henrik Ibsen's social masterpiece, HEDDA GABLER.
This renowned classic is presented with three actors in the title role, each with a different hold on the male characters. Set in a timeless and nameless place, Slipstream creates a world that resembles our own; which masks do we wear when, and for whom? What is required of a woman from the perspective of her husband, her former lover, or her friend? These questions are deeply explored by presenting the three faces of Hedda: the sultry seductress, the trophy wife, and the defiant free thinking youth.
The cast features Luna Alexander, Kaitlyn Valor-Bourque, and Tiaja Sabrie as Hedda Gabler. Ryan Ernst, Jay Jolliffe, Artun Kircali, and Victoria Rose Weatherspoon complete the cast. The production is directed by Bailey Boudreau, with technical design and execution by Ryan Ernst. Meghan Lynch assistant directs, and Bailey Boudreau serves costume designer.
This HEDDA GABLER showcases a newly adapted script, an extremely intimate setting, and an unapologetic glimpse into the inner workings of the human psyche. Just how far removed from this vilified heroine are we? And how much have times changed, if at all?
The production runs January 26th through February 16th. January 26th through February 8th, performances are Saturdays at 8:00 pm, Sundays and Mondays at 7:00 pm. The last weekend, February 14th through 16th, shows move to Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $12 in advance only and available via www.slipstreamti.com or by emailing InsideTheSlipstream@gmail.com. Slipstream Theatre Initiative is located at 460 Hilton in Ferndale.
