Slipstream Theatre Initiative proudly presents the sophomore production of it's first season, Tongues, a new play by Bailey Boudreau. A dark farce exploring three socially taboo relationships, Tongues takes uncouth to the next level. Following a high- paid escort who dresses as fairy tale characters to order, a Shakespeare-obsessed teenager, a banjo player with a swearing problem, a pill-popping jewel crazy housewife, an English teacher with no filter, a rich businessman concealing a deep secret and a mysterious tarot card reader who connects them all, this play pulls out all the stops and makes us question the definition of "normal". Through the intimate inter-twining of these couples, we are led on a twisted journey all the way back to the dawn of man. And woman.
Tongues features a talented cast of seven actors and benefits the Kyle Holton Memorial Scholarship Fund at Wayne State University. Slipstream's follow up to their re-telling of Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale couldn't be more opposite its predecessor, yet stays just as true to their mission to blur the lines between contemporary and classical and tell a story that relates to people of all generations. The play runs January 11th through January 28th, Sundays through Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm. The location is the newly renovated Upstairs at Checkers Pub and Grille in Downtown Detroit, and tickets are always $10 in advance or at the door. Slipstream offers a buy one get one card to every patron, allowing each paying audience member a chance to see any show in their season for free.
The ensemble cast includes Steve Xander Carson, Tiaja Sabrie, Daniel Miller, Daniel Jaroslaw, David Galido, Tricia Turek and Jennifer A.J. Jolliffe. Technical direction and set design are by Alexander Henderson Trice with direction and costuming by Bailey Boudreau.
