This March, Slipstream Theatre Initiative proudly presents the second show of their 5th season - The Wolves.
In this stunning Pulitzer Prize-nominated play by Sarah DeLappe, nine girls warm up together before their U-17 soccer games over the course of six weeks. We are given a unique and honest opportunity to demystify the lives of the teenaged players as they compete, collaborate, argue and support each other on the way to Nationals. In the words of the playwright: "I wanted to see a portrait of teenage girls as human beings- as complicated, nuanced, very idiosyncratic people who weren't just girlfriends or sex objects or manic pixie dream girls but who were athletes and daughters and students and scholars and people who were trying actively to figure out who they were in this changing world around them."
DeLappe masterfully fleshes out the triumphs and tragedies of adolescence while authentically capturing the heart of juvenile relationships in all their glorious complexity. The Wolves became a 2017 Pulitzer Prize finalist, and The Wolves' NYC production won an Obie Ensemble Award, a special Drama Desk Award for its acting ensemble, and was nominated for Lucille Lortel and Drama League awards for Best Play, as well as for the Outer Critics' Circle John Gassner Award for Outstanding New American Play. It also received the American Playwriting Foundation's Relentless Award and was a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and the Yale Drama Series Prize. Directed by Luna Alexander and featuring an all-female cast of young emerging talent ranging from high school, to graduate school backgrounds, The Wolves gives us a glimpse into the lives of contemporary young women and the drive that that makes them into warriors.
The cast includes Alex 'Cookie' Isenberg as # 11, Kate Martinez as #25, Tiaja Sabrie as #13, Annie Dilworth as #46, Danielle Wright as #2, Grace Jolliffe as #7, Isabella Weissman as #14, Kim Alley as # 8, Claire Jolliffe as #00, and Jennifer Jolliffe as The Soccer Mom.
