The Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company (PCSC) will present "King Lear" for one performance only at 8 p.m. on Saturday evening at The Sauk, Hillsdale County's Community Theatre.
The PCSC is Michigan's only year-round, professional touring Shakespeare company. This is their first visit to The Sauk. Frequently nominated for awards for Shakespearean performance, the company uses staging practices from Shakespeare's own time to bring his plays to life in a lively, audience-interactive and accessible atmosphere.
Set in ancient Britain, "King Lear" is one of Shakespeare's most powerful tragedies. The aging King Lear seeks to divide his kingdom amongst his three daughters, but, unlike her elder sisters, his youngest daughter Cordelia refuses to flatter him and is cut off. Lear's arrogance proves self-destructive, but once he's lost everything, he finally begins to find his humanity.
"We are thrilled to welcome the PCSC to The Sauk," said Sauk Executive Director Trinity Bird. "In addition to the productions we produce, our board of directors believe it is important to bring unique theatrical experiences to our patrons. PCSC is among the best of the best. We hope to make their visit an annual tradition."
All tickets are $10. Tickets can be purchased by calling 517-849-9100 or visiting www.thesauk.org. The Sauk Theatre is located at 240 E. Chicago in Jonesville. Tickets will be available at the door starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening. For more information about PCSC, visit www.pcshakespeare.com.
This production is sponsored by B's Shop & Fly. The 2017 season is sponsored by Expressions Photography & Design. The Sauk is supported by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts and their program ArtWorks.
