The Sauk, Hillsdale County's community theatre, will reopen at full capacity with "Peter and the Starcatcher" in August. The cast has been announced and rehearsals are underway.
In "Peter and the Starcatcher," a young orphan and his mates are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They know nothing of the mysterious trunk in the captain's cabin, which contains a precious, otherworldly cargo. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training who realizes that the trunk's precious cargo is starstuff, a celestial substance so powerful that it must never fall into the wrong hands. When the ship is taken over by pirates - led by the fearsome Black Stache, a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own - the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure. Tony-winning Peter and the Starcatcher upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan).
The cast features Sauk veterans Isaiah Brown as Black Stache, Timothy Brayman as Smee, Esther Yokell as Molly, Noah Bryant as The Boy, Tim Favreau as Prentiss, Nathan Johnson as Lord Aster, Travis Blatchley as Mrs. Bumbrake, Mike Sutton as Captain Scott, Josh Lightner as Fighting Prawn, Dylan Collier as Bill Slank and John Kasper as Alf. Ty Rupert makes his Sauk debut as Ted. Kristi Gautsche plays piano with Jacob Boswell on percussion.
This production is being directed by Trinity Bird with musical direction by Kristi Gautsche. Together, Bird and Gautsche are responsible for over 30 Sauk musicals including recent productions of "Beauty and the Beast," "Mamma Mia," "Titanic" and "Les Miserables." The design team includes Ron Boyle and Diane Langan (set), Meghan Bryant (costumes), Angela Forant (lighting), Tim Ambrose (sound) and Cyndi Baldermann (properties). Mandee Leigh Howard is the stage manager, Nick Zemaiduk is the scenic artist and Gay Shaw is the production's vocal coach.
