The Open Table Series at Performance Network will feature readings of Stephen Cooper's Spiritual Bliss and Joseph Zettelmaier's Pulp on May 13 and May 27, respectively.
The reading on May 27 was originally the week before but was rescheduled. Readings are free to attend and begin at 7:30pm. The Open Table Series offers table readings of plays and musicals, both classic and new, in an intimate setting. "We've been interested in hearing S?piritual Bliss?read out loud for a few months now, so it's great that it worked out in the schedule," said Executive Director John Manfredi. "And we are thrilled that Pulp is an NNPN Rolling World Premiere next season, so we thought it would be valuable to have an Open Table reading to get feedback on the newest version."
May 13: Spiritual Bliss by Stephen Cooper
Spiritual Bliss follows Broadway director Sylvie Sullivan as she works on a revival of Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit. Pressures mount as she faces the loss of her leading actor, the unexpected return of her dead first husband and the bumbling antics of a Russian psychic. Will Sylvie triumph against all odds, solve her marital dilemma, and bring a successful revival to Broadway?
May 27: Pulp by Joseph Zettelmaier
Set in Los Angeles, 1933, PI Frank Ellery doesn't know it, but he's taken on the strangest case of his life. A literary agent has been gruesomely murdered. The 4 suspects: his remaining clients, all writers for different pulp magazines. Frank dives into the mystery, and his world turns upside down as life begins to imitate literature. Science fiction, romance, adventure, horror...and one downonhisluck gumshoe who's about to learn what really lurks between the lines.
