Set in an island paradise during World War II, two parallel love stories are on the verge of destruction, as prejudice and judgment come into play. The Musical is based on actual experiences from the novelist James Michener, who wrote "Tales of the South Pacific" while stationed on Espiritu Santo island.

"I am so thrilled with the dedication and positive energy of the cast and production team. We have assembled the best available actors and musicians from Canton to Grosse Pointe with some cast members making over an hour drive to be apart of a production they believe in," said John Sartor.

Rogers and Hammerstein contributed such glorious tunes as Some Enchanted Evening, Nothing Like a Dame, and Wash that Man Right Outta my Hair.

Sartor said, "Rodgers & Hammerstein were brave enough to bring issues to the table that we struggle with in our daily lives via musical theatre, including prejudice and hate. The two parallel love stories in SOUTH PACIFIC deal with exactly those issues, as they learn to overcome their upbringing, think for themselves and share with the audience a very clear message. Follow your heart as it will never betray you."

The cast includes Emily Smith as Nellie Forbush, Kurt Bowen as Emile Debeque, April Denny as Bloody Mary, Jamey Lee Pittman as Luther Billis, Robby Mullinger as Lt. Joseph Cable, Elise Cloutier as Liat, Evan Sartor as Jerome, Ela Der-Stephanian as Ngana, Frank McCay as Commander Harbison, J Pat McElligott as Captain Bracket and supporting players which bring the cast to 44 performers.

The Village Theatre of Canton is a 400 seat 30,000 square feet entertainment venue located at 50400 Cherry Hill Rd. in Canton, with a sound, lighting and fly system comparable to any broadway theatre.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's SOUTH PACIFIC opened on Broadway in 1949 and was the first musical to sweep the Tony Awards, winning Best Musical, Director, Author, Composer, Producer, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress. Rodgers & Hammerstein and Joshua Logan were awarded the Pulitzer Prize for South Pacific. James Michener also was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1948 for "Tales of The South Pacific" in which the Musical South Pacific is adapted from.
