After four, highly successful summer theatre camps, Riverbank Performing Arts Academy is offering two fall workshop opportunities for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade!

The Snug Bug Series is open to children in Kindergarten through 2nd grade, and is a great, non-threatening way to introduce a child to performing in front of an audience through the memorization of short poems and stories. Students will be given a short poem to memorize and perform as part of a final performance for parents. Two sessions starting on Wednesday, October 4, are currently being offered; parents are encouraged to register their student early, as each session is limited to fifteen students.

A musical theatre workshop is also being offered for students in Grades 3-12. Any aspiring young actor is encouraged to participate, as they will begin to build skills that they can trust in their performance, while having lots of fun and making friends. The workshop will present Magic Tree House: Pirates Past Noon, KIDS, a thirty-minute production that is all about the adventures of two siblings, Jack and Annie, who go on an adventure to an exotic island with pirates. While there, the two discover the power of friendship and the simple pleasures in everyday life. Rehearsals will be held on Saturdays starting October 7, and performances of Magic Tree House: Pirates Past Noon, KIDS will be held on Saturday, November 11, at Riverbank Theatre. Parents are encouraged to register their student early, as registration is limited to 45 participants.

RPAA student, Samantha Rhein, is a junior at Peck High School who participated in our recent high school summer theatre camp, as well as several of our acting and musical theatre workshops. She says, "Riverbank Performing Arts Academy has opened the doors to so many opportunities friendships within the theatre community that I would never have had access to previously."

The Academy is under the direction of AaRon Dennis Smith, who has been involved with the Snug and Riverbank Theatres since their inception, as an actor, director, and music director. He officially joined the team in 2016 as Managing Director of Riverbank Performing Arts Academy. Aaron holds a B.A. in Music Business and Voice Performance from Anderson University (Anderson, IN). He has experience instructing youth in all aspects of the performing arts, and has directed productions of Beauty and the Beast, Seussical, and Mary Poppins, among others. You may have seen him onstage here at the Snug and Riverbank; some of his favorite roles are Cornelius Hackl in Hello, Dolly! (which he also directed), Michael in I Do! I Do!, Richard Hannay in The 39 Steps, Aldolpho in The Drowsy Chaperone (also directed), and most recently, Lord Farquaad in Shrek.
