The Ringwald Theatre, the trailblazing Ferndale theatre, is about to embark on its 9th season! And in sorder to look ahead, we must first look back: 8 seasons of great, sometime groundbreaking theatre: Southern Baptist Sissies. Bug. The Bad Seed. Rent. Evil Dead: The Musical. The SantaLand Diaries. When the Rain Stops Falling. Killer Joe. Angels in America. Mercury Fur. {title of show}. The Book of Liz. August: Osage County. Glengarry Glen Ross. Stupid f-ing Bird.
This is just a fraction of the over 70 productions The Ringwald has produced since opening their doors in 2007.
And there are still stories to tell!
This year marks two more firsts for The Ringwald: a season preview party which will coincide with the launch of our first crowdsource funding campaign.
Tonight, August 28, 2015 at 8:00 PM, The Ringwald will host the 2015/2016 Ringwald Season Preview Party at The Ringwald Theatre 22742 Woodward Ave, Ferndale, MI 48220. Complete with food, drink, and selections from the slate of shows on deck for the coming season, the 2015/2016 Ringwald Season Preview Party is sure to entertain AND inform! There is no charge for this event.
This season, The Ringwald presents a "Classics Season", all plays are either classics in their own right or pay homage to a pop culture classic:
The Whale by Samuel D. Hunte
A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams
The SantaLand Diaries & Season's Greetings by David
I'll Eat You Last by John Logan AND Buyer & Cellar by Jonathan Tollins
Mr. Burns, a post-electric play by Anne Washburn
The Hung Man by Ian Bonner and Marty Shea
Heathers: The Musical by Lawrence O'Keefe, Kevin Murphy, and Andy Fickman
On the same night, The Ringwald will launch its IndieGoGo campaign, the first crowdsource funding effort in its 9 year history. All funds raised will go directly toward production costs.
It's a risky, exciting season ahead for The Ringwald, but that's nothing new for the intimate storefront performance venue. With "Unpredictable Theatre" as its mantra, The Ringwald continues to blaze trails in Detroit theatre.
