Purple Rose Theatre Company Announces 2009-10 Class Schedule

As part of a core mission to provide opportunities for Midwestern artists, The Purple Rose Theatre Company is currently registering for classes during the 09 / 10 season.

The season opens with the PRTC's first ever Teen Actor Boot Camp. For high school students interested in advancing their craft through exploration of the acting principles used by working professional actors, this class includes intensive physical training, partner exercises and monologue work. Taught by resident artist Michelle Mountain and associate artist Heidi Bennett, Teen Boot Camp will meet on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Cost for the class is $200 which includes lunch on both class days.

In the PRTC's most comprehensive and acclaimed class, the Actor / Director Lab, students participate as either an actor or director and explore the unique PRTC process. Taught by artistic director Guy Sanville, resident artist Michelle Mountain and guest artists, this class features instruction in acting and directing techniques through group scene work. Class will meet on Mondays from 7:00 to 11:00 pm, October 5 through December 7. Cost for the class is $800 or $650 for AEA members. Applications are required for first-time A/D Lab participants; applications are available for download at www.purplerosetheatre.org. Registration for this class is currently "wait list only."

Director Boot Camp is a new addition to the PRTC class roster. Modeled on the popular weekend intensive-Actor Boot Camp-this class presents an insider's look at the tricks of the trade including casting, script analysis, rehearsal tools, staging techniques. Taught by artistic director Guy Sanville and guest artists and designed for directors of all skill levels, Director Boot Camp offers hands-on experience working with professional actors on short scenes. Class will be held Friday, October 9 from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Saturday, October 10 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday, October 11 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Cost for the class is $300 which includes lunch on Saturday.

Taught by artistic director Guy Sanville and guest artists, Actor Boot Camp offers movement training, vocal and monologue work, and a Q & A with working professionals about essential guidelines for developing a career in the entertainment industry. Class will be held Friday, November 13 from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Saturday, November 14 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday, November 15 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Cost for the class is $200 which includes lunch on Saturday.

Also new to the PRTC class roster is the Playwriting Workshop. This intensive exploration of dramatic structure will be taught by artistic director Guy Sanville and guest artists. Using team-building exercises, oral narrative, prose and poetry, students will write a 10-minute play and discuss methods for expanding the piece into a full-length play. The class will meet Friday, December 11 from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Saturday, December 12 from 12:00 to 5:00 pm and Sunday, December 13 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Cost for the class is $200.

Taught by resident artist Michelle Mountain and associate artist Stacie Hadgikosti, this year's Voice & Movement is being offered on Mondays from February 8 through March 15 with sessions from 2:00 to 5:00 pm or 7:00 and 10:00 pm. This class-through techniques including Linklater, Laban, yoga and mask work-is designed to help students discover their full vocal and physical potential. This essential performance training will break physical habits, release negative tension and create the physical and emotional availability necessary for a successful performance. Cost for the class is $350.

Offered before general audition season, Audition Intensive aims to give students the tools to walk into every audition prepared to give the best performance of their lives. During this workshop, artistic director Guy Sanville provides intensive one-on-one monologue work and tips for effective interviews, headshots and resumes. Class will meet on Tuesday, February 23 and Wednesday, February 24 from 7:00 to 11:00 pm. Cost for the class is $175.

Now in its second year, Advanced Acting is a performance class exclusively for experienced actors who are serious about taking their craft to the next level. The class features intensive acting exercises, monologues and scene work under the instruction of PRTC artistic director Guy Sanville and resident artist Michelle Mountain. Offered Mondays, April 12 through May 24 from 7:00 to 11:00 pm, cost for this class is $700 or $550 for AEA members. Prerequisites include Actor / Director Lab and/or Voice & Movement and previous stage experience.

All students must be 18+ years of age due to liability and course content unless otherwise indicated. All classes are held at the PRTC rehearsal space in the Chelsea Center for the Arts at 400 Congdon, Chelsea, MI.

Registrations are accepted on a pre-paid first-come, first-served basis; full payment is required to register.
