Pontiac Theatre IV presents Anne of Green Gables -- The Musical as the first production of its 2014-2015 season this and next weekend, November 14, 15, 21, and 22 at Pontiac High School.

Based on the classic novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables -- The Musical depicts the charming story of the irrepressible redheaded orphan who stumbles her way through a series of scrapes, makes a bosom friend, and searches for (and finds) several kindred spirits in her now town of Avonlea. Pontiac Theatre IV's production is produced and directed by John Tonner, assistant directed by Jo Anne Kroll, music directed by Shari Fiore, and choreographed by Sharon Heltsley.

Tickets for the show are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and children under 12. Attendees may also bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Gleaners Community Food Bank to receive a free popcorn from the concession stand. The show is general admission and tickets will be available at the door.

Anne of Green Gables -- The Musical features a book by Don Harron, music by Norman Campbell, and lyrics by Don Harron, Norman Campbell, Elaine Campbell, and Mavor Moore. The musical has been performed continuously ever since 1965, making it Canada's longest-running musical. In March 2014, the production was officially recognized as the longest running annual musical theatre production in the world by Guinness World Records.

Pontiac Theatre IV began as a summer venture in 1969 with what was then the Pontiac Parks and Recreation Department (now Community and Human Services) of the City of Pontiac. In 1973, the group decided to become an independent community theater company separate from the Pontiac Parks and Recreation Department. Because the department had provided sponsorship for four years, the group elected to take the name Pontiac Theatre IV. Over the years we have enjoyed the support of local business and industry, the Pontiac schools, and the City of Pontiac, which still provides space for storage and rehearsals. As a community theatre, we welcome the participation of all interested people.
