On March 7, Planet Ant Theatre will bring the legalization of marijuana debate to the stage with the debut the original comedy, Yes Weed Can. Tickets ($10-$20) are on sale now for performances through March 29. A complete schedule follows this release.
This original musical satire follows three friends--a grower, a user, and a bureaucrat--as it explores the complex issues surrounding the legalization of marijuana and how it became illegal after centuries of accepted use. Written by Jaime Moyer (Detroit/Los Angeles) and Shawn Handlon (Harper Woods), both alumni of The Second City Detroit, the comedy features eight original songs by Mikey Brown (Ferndale). Yes Weed Can stars Dax Anderson (Hamtramck), Mikey Brown, Patrick Cronin (Bloomfield Hills), Patrick Loos (Detroit), Kelly Rossi (Grosse Pointe Park), and Katie Terpstra (Zeeland). Tickets ($10-$20) are on sale now for performances at 8:00pm Friday & Saturday evenings with 2:00pm Sunday matinees March 16 and 23.
Throughout this season Planet Ant presents a late night Saturday show featuring a rotating schedule of improvisation. Tickets are $5 at the door.
In its thirteen years, the Planet Ant Improv Colony has generated over twenty original comedies and continues to perform every Monday night in Michigan's longest-running improv comedy show - Improv Mondays. At 8:00 pm the show kicks off with a guest improv troupe followed by a performance by Planet Ant's resident Home Team. The night closes with The Ant Jam, an opportunity for anyone to improvise on the Planet Ant stage. Tickets are $5 at the door.
