Grosse Pointe Theatre members believe in sharing with the community. This season they spread holiday cheer to four local charities to combat hunger. Gifts included $1,000 to the Grosse Pointe Meals on Wheels program for homebound senior citizens run by SOC (Services for Older Citizens), $2,000 to Gleaners Community Food Bank, $1,000 to the Salvation Army, and $1,000 to COTS (Coalition on Temporary Shelter).

The donations were made possible by the generous members of Grosse Pointe Theatre through GPT's annual Christmas card campaign at their annual holiday party, held on December 6th at GPT's headquarters in Grosse Pointe. The festivities included silent and live auctions and a book sale, among the caroling, cookies and a visit from Santa. Besides its fundraising activities at the party, GPT members donated a large box of toiletries and treats for U.S. armed forces in Afghanistan, with Christmas cards created by members' children.

The Grosse Pointe Theatre holiday party was organized by Mary Lou Britton, Arlene Marie Schoenherr, Barbara Elliott, and GPT Social Chairperson Lisa Johnson. Many members volunteered their time and talents, providing a wide variety of goods and services for the auctions, including several gourmet dinners prepared by some of the group's talented cooks. The dinners are among the most coveted auction prizes. Other members contributed hand-made items and services from their businesses.

Following the party, members cleared the loft for rehearsals of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, which opens January 17th and runs through January 30th. Call 313-881-4004 or go to www.gpt.org for tickets.
