"From not knowing which group you belong to at school, to having a crush on someone, or dealing with an uncomfortable home life situation, I'm pretty sure everyone can relate to the feelings touched upon in 13." Amy Lauter, Producer of 13, continues, "This show pulls together all of those uncomfortable feelings that we all (or most of us anyway) experienced at one time in our lives. The book and the music are spectacular, with just the right combination of humor and heart!"
Thistle Rose Young Artists is proud to present its inaugural show: a spectacular one night performance of 13: The Musical. The performance takes place on Thursday, September 28, at the Historic Senate Theater in Detroit. Tickets can be purchased on-line at www.thistleroseacademy.org.
13 centers around Evan Goldman who has recently been plucked out of his fast-paced, preteen New York City life and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following his parents' divorce. Evan quickly learns that he needs to find his place amongst the rest of the simpleminded middle schoolers he meets. Choosing the right group - Geek, Poser, Jock, Beauty Queen, Wannabe - is an important step in making your place in the world. As he navigates through the world of cool kids, nerds, jocks and cheerleaders, as well as first kisses and heartbreak, he comes to understand "What It Means to be a Friend". With an unforgettable rock score from Tony Award-winning composer, Jason Robert Brown, (Parade, The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County) 13 is a musical about fitting in - and standing out!
