As part of their Diversity Guest Artist Series, Festival Playhouse has partnered with the Black Arts & Cultural Center's Face Off Theatre Company to bring Katori Hall's THE MOUNTAINTOP to Kalamazoo via their Nelda K. Balch Playhouse Theatre. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
The plays depicts a gripping re-imagination of the events the night before the assassination of the civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On April, 3, 1968, after delivering one of his most memorable speeches. An exhausted Dr. King returns to his room at the Lorraine Motel while a storm rages outside. When a maid arrives with some surprising news, King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy to his people.
Professional actors, Tanisha Pyron and
Kenajuan Bentley, will portray Camae and King respectively. Both are alumni of Western Michigan University's Dept. of Theatre.
Show Times: Jan 14-16 at 8pm; Jan 17 at 2pm at Kalamazoo College - Nelda K. Balch Playhouse. There will be no admission charged at the door. Donations are welcome. Reservations: 269-337-7333. For more information, visit
