Two Muses Theatre presents the world premiere of A Little Work by best selling authors Anita Diamant and Stephen McCauley. The show will be performed on Friday and Saturday evenings from September 7 through September 30, as well as Sunday matinees. Two Muses Theatre performs in the intimate 160-seat theatre inside Barnes & Noble Booksellers, located at 6800 Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Director and Two Muses Co-Founder Diane Hill has been working with the authors to fine-tune the play ever since Anita Diamant came to see a workshop production of the play at SRO Productions last spring. “It was fun seeing our work brought to life on stage,” said Diamant of the SRO rendition of A Little Work. “It prompted Stephen and me to streamline the story. And Diane’s attention to shorter scene changes has also helped to transform this former two act show into a sleek one act play.”

“This nip/tuck is fitting with the theme of the play,” added Hill. “Much like the pressure the women impose upon themselves to maintain physical beauty in the show, we wanted to give the original script a bit of a makeover. And we couldn’t be happier with the result.”

The large cast is filled with women, supporting Two Muses’ mission to provide opportunities in theatre for female artists. Two Muses Co-Founder Barbie Weisserman and Nancy Cooper play burned out English teacher, Mia, and well-known writer, Kitty, respectively. Their close friendship is challenged when Kitty, who is recovering from a face-lift, drops in with her nurse, played by Barbara Bicknell. The show also features Patrick O’Lear as Mia’s husband, Erin Hildebrandt as Mia’s daughter, who brings home her friend played by Michael Lopetrone, and the book club ladies: Maureen Mansfield, Rae McIntosh and Maggie Gilkes. Celebrated writers Anita Diamant and Stephen McCauley are widely known for their best-selling novels (The Red Tent, The Object of My Affection).

In connection with the performance, the authors will discuss the play and read from recent work at Barnes & Noble at 6:30 PM on September 8th, prior to the performance, and will take questions from the audience following the 2 PM matinee on Sunday, September 9th.

Founded in November 2011 by Diane Hill and Barbie Amann Weisserman, Two Muses Theatre is a nonprofit, professional theatre dedicated to providing opportunities for female artisans and women in theatre. All funds raised from performances and educational workshops go directly into maintaining the theatre. For more information, visit www.twomusestheatre.org.
