In response to demand for tickets, Performance Network Theatre is extending the critically acclaimed drama, "Red," for one week only. Written by John Logan, "Red" will now run through Sunday, June 3, at which time it must close to make way for the summer comedy, "In the Next Room or the vibrator play." "Red" is directed by Carla Milarch and stars Mark Rademacher and Kevin Young.

"Red" is being called "powerful," "absolutely mesmerizing," "outstanding" and "unforgettable" by area critics, while audiences have called it "timeless."

"As soon as 'Red' opened, the word of mouth seemed to spread like wildfire. The power of our audiences just talking about the show to their friends is greater than any advertising we could pay for" said Marketing Director, Chelsea Sadler.

"Red" chronicles two years in the life of abstract expressionist painter, Mark Rothko, as he worked feverishly in his Manhattan studio on what was, at the time, the highest-paid commission in art history. A Russian immigrant Jew from humble beginnings, he worked on a series of enormous murals that would adorn that bastion of capitalism - the famous Four Seasons Restaurant in Mies Van der Rohe's Seagrams Building. John Logan's Tony-winning play paints a picture of the fiery artist as he works intensely on the paintings, with the help of his apprentice Ken, and struggles with his personal demons to bring forth what would ultimately be his life's greatest achievement.

"With all of the press lately about Mark Rothko's work selling at auction for tens of millions of dollars, it seems that Performance Network audiences are not the only ones enthralled by the larger-than-life artist and his work. We're thrilled that the story of this fascinating and outspoken man, whom we at PNT have grown to love, has been so well-received." said director Carla Milarch.

Weekly performances of "Red" are Thursdays at 7:30, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm, with a 3pm Saturday matinees on May 19.

Tickets can be ordered at the Performance Network Box Office at 734-663-0681, online at
www.performancenetwork.org or by coming to the Performance Network Theatre (120 East Huron St., Ann Arbor, 48104) Monday-Saturday 11-6 or one hour before a performance. Tickets are priced at $25 - $41, with discounts available for seniors, members, students and groups.

"Red" contains adult language and is not suitable for those under age 17.

Founded in 1981, Performance Network Theatre has grown from a fledgling company to Ann Arbor's only resident, professional theatre. The Network reaches 40,000 theatre patrons and children each year through the year-round Professional Series and the Children's Theatre Network. Performance Network also presents the Fireside Festival of New Works and a series of classes on theatre-related topics. The Network provides uncompromising artistic leadership in the region and produces works that engage, challenge and inspire audiences and artists.
