Performance Network Theatre announces it's production of "The War Since Eve," by Michigan playwright, Kim Carney. This World Premiere comedy will open in previews on January 13 and runs through February 13. "Eve" is directed by PNT Artistic Director, David Wolber, and features Henrietta Hemelin, Sarab Kamoo ("Sonia Flew") and Leah Smith.
From the playwright who brought audiences "Moonglow" and "The Home Team," comes another knockout comedy. On the eve of receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom, women's rights pioneer and bawdy, outspoken feminist Roxie Firestone has a dilemma. As the mother of two grown daughters - Milty, her put-upon assistant and Tara, from whom she has been estranged for twenty years - she wouldn't win any Mother of the Year awards. When Tara returns and Milty threatens to jump ship, she must decide which is more important, sisterhood or motherhood?
Says playwright Kim Carney, about the play's themes and characters: "As a life-long feminist, I guess what I'm proudest about is that I feel like I'm making a contribution toward the cause by not only the subject matter of the play, but the fact that it has a challenging, complex main character who's in her 70s. At a time when they're at the top of their game, actresses in their 70s are usually relegated to small, grandma-type roles, and that's not fair!"
Director David Wolber echoes this sentiment. "As a director and an Artistic Director, I do always try to consciously choose plays that have great, meaty roles for women, though sometimes it can be tough because there just aren't as many choices out there. That's part of why we love Kim's work here at the Network -- not only does she write heartwarming and hilarious scripts, she always creates a wonderful range of characters as well."
Weekly performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm, with a 3pm matinee on Saturday Janurary 29th and February 12th.
