Open Book Theatre Company to Open Third Season with PETER AND THE STARCATCHER

Open Book Theatre Company is excited to announce the first production of their third season: Peter and the Starcatcher. The show will also be the first in their new space at 1621 West Road in Trenton.

The show is a wildly theatrical interpretation of the popular books by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. Twelve actors portray over 100 characters in this fast paced production which tells the story of how a nameless orphan boy finds himself on an island, with a new name: Peter Pan. We see the beginnings of the arch rivalry between the boy and a great mustachioed pirate. Fans of the Peter Pan movie and book will delight in the back story, and even those unfamiliar with the original will enjoy the story of hope and friendship, complete with pirates, mermaids, and magic!

The show is directed by Open Book Artistic Director Krista Schafer Ewbank of Grosse Ile, and will be performed in the round (with the audience on four sides of the action!). "I was drawn to the wonderful and imaginative storytelling in this play" she explained, "and it's full of humor and heart. It's a great show for children and adults to enjoy together."

Crews have been hard at work all summer renovating two storefronts for the new space. "I literally squealed when I finally saw our name on the awning out front," Schafer Ewbank said. "It's a lot of work, but I'm so excited to have this beautiful new place to tell stories. I believe that the telling of stories is how we as humans become known to each other. We learn about others and ourselves. It's the heart of who we are. Doing that live, in an intimate setting, is magic. That's theatre."

The cast and crew features talented artists from Downriver and the Greater Metro Detroit area: James Busam (Rochester), Jaclynn Cherry (Madison Heights), Jonathan Davidson (Detroit), Dan Johnson (Ann Arbor), Dennis Kleinsmith (Lathrup Village), Taylor Morrow (Detroit), Mindy Padlo (Brownstown), Sean Paraventi (Redford), Kez Settle (Clawson), Alexander Sloan (Howell), Nick Szczerba (Brownstown), and LeNora Whitecotton (Brownstown). Jeff Bobick (Royal Oak) is Music Director, Harley Miah (Wyandotte) is designing lights and Danielle Gilbert (Allen Park) is stage managing.

Opening night tickets include an after party, and are $30 each. Tickets for all other performances are $20, or $15 for students and seniors. Group discounts are available for groups of 10 or more, at a discount of $3 off each ticket. Season tickets are also available for $85, or $65 for students and seniors.
