Olympia Entertainment is excited to announce a variety of theatrical and musical experiences to headline the 2014-2015 Fifth Third Bank Fox Theatre Series; featuring some of musical theater's most enduring titles, as well as new favorites.
Driving Miss Daisy (Friday, Oct. 31 - Sunday, Nov. 2; at the City Theatre) is the story of Daisy Werthan, a 72 year old Jewish woman living in the south who is too stubborn to admit she needs assistance, Hoke, an illiterate black man hired to be her chauffer, and the strong but reluctant bond that grows between them. The play takes place from 1948-1973 as the civil-rights movement brings changes to the old South.
Celtic Thunder's "Symphony Tour" (Tuesday, Nov. 25) will feature the international singing sensation in a dynamic live music experience accentuated by the instrumentals of a full symphony orchestra to perform songs from their 2013 chart-topping album Christmas Voices. The show will feature holiday favorites ranging from traditional carols "Away in A Manger" and "O Holy Night" to the more contemporary "Mary's Boy Child" and "Fairytale of New York"; as well as signature Celtic Thunder hit songs and traditional Irish numbers.
Grammy-winning music legend Kenny Rogers will return with his signature sound and stellar showmanship for the "Christmas & Hits Tour" (Saturday, Dec. 6). Rogers will deliver heartfelt performances ranging from holiday favorites "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let it Snow!," "Silent Night" and "Mary, Did You Know" to many of his classic hits including "Lady," "The Gambler," "Islands In The Stream," "She Believes In Me," "Through The Years" and others. Mannheim Steamroller Christmas by Chip Davis, the official 104.3 WOMC Christmas Concert (Sunday, Dec. 7) has been America's favorite holiday celebration for over 25 years. Grammy Award winner Chip Davis has created a show that features the beloved Christmas music of Mannheim Steamroller along with dazzling multimedia effects performed in an intimate setting. It's CSI: Bethlehem in this holiday mystery extravaganza, as Sister's Christmas Catechism (Thursday, Dec. 11 - Sunday, Dec. 14; at the City Theatre) takes on the mystery that has intrigued historians throughout the ages - whatever happened to the Magi's gold? In this hilarious production, Sister retells the story of the nativity using her own scientific tools, a local choir and a gaggle of audience members. Las Vegas Strip headliner and America's Got Talent winner Terry Fator (Saturday, Dec. 13) captures audience's hearts and funny bones with his unique brand of entertainment. Combining singing, comedy and unparalleled celebrity impressions Fator brings to life a cast of characters including Winston, the Impersonating Turtle, Emma Taylor, the little girl with the big voice, Maynard Tompkins, the Elvis Impersonator, Monty Carly, the lounge singer and many others. The performance is presented in partnership with MGM Grand Detroit. Renowned director Neil Goldberg re-imagines the holiday season with sparkle and suspense one can only dream of in a "holidaze". Cirque Dreams Holidaze (Tuesday, Dec. 16 - Saturday, Dec. 20) features an international cast of multi-talented and brilliantly costumed artists who come to life and perform astonishing feats of disbelief. An original music score and some seasonal favorites accompany hundreds of spectacular costumes and holiday dreams in a setting of gigantic gifts, colossal candy canes and 30-foot towering soldiers.
