The lively comedic plot of "Die Fledermaus" revolves around mistaken identities, flirtations at a masked ball, and frivolities of all kinds. The music is some of the most melodious ever written, and Oakland University's young opera stars will bring the tale to life, singing in English. The fully staged production will feature lush costumes, beautiful sets and a full orchestra.
"Die Fledermaus" is the most frequently performed of all the 19-century Viennese operettas and truly represents the Golden Age of the Austrian musical stage. "It is a classic Viennese operetta," said music professor Drake Dantzler who is directing the production. "It's enjoyed worldwide."
"Die Fledermaus" will be performed in Varner Recital Hall, which is located on the Oakland University campus. Maps of the campus are available at oakland.edu/map or by searching for "Varner Hall" on a smartphone. Ample free parking will be available.
