The theatre program at Oakland University will continue its performance season on November 10 with a chilling 20th century masterpiece, The House of Bernarda Alba, by Spanish dramatist Federico García Lorca.

As the play begins, Bernarda's second husband has died. She has imposed an eight-year mourning period on her five daughters and forbidden them even to leave the house. Angustias, Magdalena, Amelia, Martirio and Adela grow ever more resentful of their mother's unyielding power over their lives, and the sexual tension grows to incendiary levels as rumors spread about the intentions of a handsome young man beyond the walls.

The all-female cast, under the direction of Professor Karen Sheridan, will give nine performances, between Thursday, November 10, and Sunday, November 20, two of which will be shadow signed for the deaf by Synergy on Stage. Those performances are at 2 pm on Sunday, November 13 and at 8 pm on Saturday, November 19.

After the Thursday, November 17, show there will be a talkback with the designers and technicians about how the visual elements of the show were created and developed.

Tickets are $15 general admission and $8 for students and everyone at the 10 am matinee on Friday, November 18. The production is in Varner Studio Theatre, which is located on the Oakland University campus at 371 Varner Drive. Maps of the campus are available at oakland.edu/map. Ample free parking will be available in lots 24 and 26.
