Matrix Theatre Company is delighted to announce an exciting special program, a playwriting intensive with award-winning playwright, Noah Haidle, running through the summer and fall of 2016. The Playwriting Intensive with Noah Haidle is for youth ages 14 - 18, and runs Mondays and Wednesdays 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM, July 18 through October 22.

The intensive is exclusive to members of the Matrix Teen Company, a group of area high school-aged youth who write and perform plays that draw attention to crucial community issues.

Admission to the Teen Company is by audition only. Young artists interested in participating must register and audition by August 15. There is a $5 fee to audition and, upon acceptance into the Teen Company, an additional $45 tuition fee must be paid. To set up an audition or for more information, call Amy Thomas at (313) 967-0999 ext. 3 or visit www.matrixtheatre.org.

New and returning members of the Matrix Teen Company will have the opportunity to develop their own individual plays and present their new work at showcase readings near the end of the session. Young artists at Matrix will have the exclusive opportunity to receive advice and mentorship from Mr. Haidle as they work on their plays, and collaborate with one another to present their original works.

"We are very excited to have such a talented and knowledgeable playwright leading this class for our teens," said Amy Thomas, Matrix's Director of Education. "Noah Haidle has worked with our Teen Company in the past and has fostered great relationships with and learning opportunities for them. While our youth have had a lot of experience writing collectively as a group, it will be great for them to develop their individual voices and receive more one on one attention."

Noah Haidle is a distinguished playwright whose plays have premiered at the Goodman Theatre, Lincoln Center Theater, Roundabout Theatre Company, the Huntington Theatre Company, Long Wharf Theatre, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, South Coast Repertory, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, the Williamstown Theatre Festival, the Summer Play Festival in New York City, HERE Arts Center, as well as many others around the United States and abroad. He is a graduate of Princeton University and The Juilliard School, where he was a Lila Acheson Wallace playwright-in-residence. He is the recipient of three Lincoln Center Lecompte Du Nouy awards, the 2005 Helen Merrill Award for emerging playwrights, the 2007 Claire Tow Award and an NEA/TCG Theatre Residency Grant.

The Playwriting Intensive with Noah Haidle and the Matrix School of Theatre are funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Celebrating more than 25 years as a non-profit, community-based theatre, Matrix Theatre Company is located in southwest Detroit and changes lives, builds community and fosters social justice through theatre. Go to matrixtheatre.org for further information.
