Long-time editor-in-chief of The Grand Rapids Press Mike Lloyd has been hired as executive director of Broadway Grand Rapids, a 21-year-old organization which presents and promotes touring Broadway productions at DeVos Performance Hall.
Lloyd retired in July 2009 after 31 years as editor-in-chief of The Grand Rapids Press. He is a passionate community advocate and supporter of the arts, including as a contributor and season ticket holder to Broadway Grand Rapids since its inception.
"I am delighted to continue my service to the community in my new role with Broadway Grand Rapids," said Lloyd. "I look forward to taking the organization and its offerings to the next level for West Michigan residents and visitors."
Broadway Grand Rapids recently signed a management agreement with Michigan State University's Wharton Center for Performing Arts. Lloyd will work closely with the Wharton Center staff to position Broadway Grand Rapids as a leading resource for performing arts and arts education in West Michigan.
"We are exceedingly pleased by the appointment of Mike Lloyd as our new executive director," said Harvey Gainey, president of the Broadway Grand Rapids board of directors. "Mike's passion for the arts and his reputation in our community, coupled with the expertise of Wharton Center as a renowned presenter of performing arts, will undoubtedly lead to new heights in entertainment and arts education in West Michigan."
Lloyd is currently chairman of the board for the Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, and a member of the operating board for St. Mary's Hospital and foundation boards of both Grand Valley State University and Grand Rapids Community College. Previous volunteerism includes leadership positions on the board of Opera Grand Rapids,
Mary Free Bed Hospital, and Junior Achievement.
"Mike brings new credibility and connectivity to the organization," said Meg Goebel, vice-chair of the Broadway Grand Rapids board of directors. "Under his capable leadership, we have high hopes for the future of Broadway Grand Rapids as a leading arts organization in West Michigan."
