One of the most beloved shows in America, SEUSSICAL the Musical, will shine brightly on the Little Theater stage at Midland Center for the Arts this spring, featuring youth performers from all over Mid-Michigan.

The fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza by Tony Award winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Once on this Island, Ragtime), brings to life all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination - Jojo.

The Center is seeking kids in grades third through twelfth to fill all of the roles in this fun show for the whole family with auditions taking place Feb. 2 and 3 from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m., in Rehearsal Room B at the Center. "We are so excited to bring back a youth theatre production this spring to re-engage with the young performers in our community after a long intermission due to the pandemic," said Travis Kendrick, Manager of Produced Theatre and Theatre Education at Midland Center for the Arts. "This production will provide students with a fun opportunity to perform with kids from all over the region while also developing their skills in acting, singing and dancing."

The production will run for four performances on the Little Theater stage at the Center for the Arts: Apr. 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Apr. 9 and 10 at 3 p.m. The production team boasts a roster of long-standing Center Stage Theatre veterans including Melissa Bornemann as the director, Carol Rumba as assistant director and directing mentor, and Travis Kendrick as choreographer.

"Seussical is the perfect show for our local youth actors after the long intermission because of its imaginative characters that can challenge and inspire rising stars," described director Melissa Bornemann. "We are encouraging students of all experience levels to audition, whether this will be your first time on stage or you are a veteran under the spotlight. Seussical will be a great introduction to the beautiful world of live theatre!"

All participants in the production will be required to be fully vaccinated. Rehearsals begin in February, and will take place four times per week leading up to the performance. For more information on auditions and what students should be prepared for, please visit midlandcenter.org/perform.
