Michigan Shakespeare Festival Holds 1st District MSF Monologue Scholarship Competition, 5/19

The Michigan Shakespeare Festival is holding the first district of its MSF Monologue Scholarship Competition tomorrow, Saturday, May 19th, at Whole Foods Market, 3135 Washtenaw Ave. in Ann Arbor. The competition is open to all high schoolers grades 9-12. A registration fee of $5.00 is required, sign up begins at 10am. This is the Eastern District of the competition and 4 finalists will be chosen to go to the State Final, held during the Michigan Shakespeare Festival on July 28th. The winners will be announced on stage, during the curtain call for the matinee performance of Love's Labour's Lost.

The Western District will be held next week, May 26th at 2:00 p.m., at the Carnegie Branch of the Jackson District Library, at 244 East Michigan Ave in Jackson. As in the Eastern District, the top four finalists will advance to the state final on July 28th. Prize money will be awarded on the 28th, and individuals have the opportunity to receive upwards of $800.00 in scholarship monies to use as they fit in pursuit of their advanced degrees.

Students can register on the day of the competition or visit the MSF website for more information. The public is invited to attend the competitions at no cost. Seating is limited.

The Michigan Shakespeare Festival runs July 12- August 12 at the Potter Center in Jackson, Michigan, 2111 Emmons Road, 49201. Additionally, 'Shakespeare Allow'd!' - Free public readings of Shakespeare's Canon, are held at the Jackson District Library the last Saturday of every Month at 10am.
