The "New" McCree Theatre will hold auditions for its Spring youth production, "Fame," with music by Stephen Margoshes, lyrics by Jacques Levy, book and libretto by David De Silva and José Fernandez, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 17 & 18, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the theatre, 322 E. Hamilton. The theatre is seeking youth actors between the ages of 12 to adult to fill a variety of roles, including an ensemble of 12 students of the performing arts school where the action takes place. Adult males and females are needed to fill the roles of parents and teachers.
"Dance-only" auditions will be available to dancers who would like to participate. Actor/Singers should come prepared with a song of at least 16 bars, a verse or paragraph of a poem or monologue to read, and an eight-count dance routine.
"Fame" takes place during the last years of New York City's celebrated High School for the Performing Arts on 46th Street (1980-1984), it is the bittersweet, but ultimately inspiring, story of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years of grueling artistic and academic work. With candor, humor and insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young people today: issues of prejudice, identity, self-worth, literacy, sexuality, substance abuse and perseverance. Twenty musical numbers back up the storyline in this highly acclaimed musical.
