Stand Up! is Matrix's newest original play, written by talented Matrix Teen Company alumni. When Charlie is "sick" again and refuses to go to school, Charlie's mom knows that something is up. After some prodding, Charlie finally confesses that she is really just sick of eating lunch alone and sick of the kids at school making fun of her. To encourage her, Charlie's mom recounts stories and events in her own life when standing up, or not standing up, for herself and others made a difference.
The show focuses on the common theme that, throughout Matrix's 25 years of existence, there have been populations in our Detroit community that have been excluded. In this production directed by Chris Jakob, Matrix's young artists spotlight ways for audiences of all ages to be more welcoming of diversity.
