The young artists at the Matrix School of Theatre bring the new inspirational play Stand Up! to life for audiences of all ages this June. Performances run June 3 - 5 on Friday and Saturday at 7PM and Sunday at 3PM and take place at Matrix Theatre Company, located at 2730 Bagley Street, Detroit, MI 48216. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors and can be reserved or purchased by calling (313) 967-0599 or by visiting matrixtheatre.org.

Stand Up! is Matrix's newest original play, written by talented Matrix Teen Company alumni. When Charlie is "sick" again and refuses to go to school, Charlie's mom knows that something is up. After some prodding, Charlie finally confesses that she is really just sick of eating lunch alone and sick of the kids at school making fun of her. To encourage her, Charlie's mom recounts stories and events in her own life when standing up, or not standing up, for herself and others made a difference.

The show focuses on the common theme that, throughout Matrix's 25 years of existence, there have been populations in our Detroit community that have been excluded. In this production directed by Chris Jakob, Matrix's young artists spotlight ways for audiences of all ages to be more welcoming of diversity.

About the Matrix School of Theatre: The Matrix School of Theatre uses its unique learner-centered approach to engage young artists ages 5 - 18 in playwriting and performance so that young people in Detroit have the opportunity to create new work that calls attention to crucial issues in their lives, writing original plays that entertain as well as educate.
