The professional singing group "Masquerade" is on a mission to mesmerize crowds on both sides of the border with a special Holiday Concert – One night only in each country.

The 15-voice a cappella group will perform Friday December 9th at 7:30 pm at St. Mary's Anglican church in Windsor and Sunday, December 11th at 2:00 p.m. at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church. Tickets cost $15 and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the church music programs.

"Masquerade" includes talented musicians from both sides of the Detroit-Windsor border. The group sings a wide variety of music all year long, but this is its first holiday concert, and it will feature a special "Christmas Sing-a-long," for families to enjoy.

The group's director Rachael Rose of Waterford, Michigan says Masquerade members "came together because we had a dream of making beautiful music with fine musicians and sharing the result with audiences on either side of the border. "

The New Group, Masquerade, was recently reformed by adding new members to many of the veterans of a former group. When the current group debuted in June 2011 in the U.S. and Canada Rose says, "we were met with a wonderful reception and comments from people letting us know that we filled a gap they had been missing".

Why Masquerade?

So why the name Masquerade? "We chose Masquerade as the name of our group because we wanted the freedom to be able to do concerts any time of year, not just Christmas," says Rose. Members also wanted to be able to sing any type of music and wear costumes tailored to their performances. "As professional musicians, we set the bar of excellence very high for the quality of music and entertainment we provide. But more than that, we love to make music together, which makes relating to our audience more fun and more personal."
The Christmas Concert

In addition to the carol sing-a-long, this concert contains tunes from very early music ("Gaudete"), traditional carols ("Carol of the Bells" - a traditional Ukranian carol), the "old standards" very familiar to audiences everywhere like "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town", "It's Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas" and many different beautiful pieces in between.

The bottom line says Rose, "Even and maybe especially in this economic environment, people still want to get out and go to concerts and shows. They're looking for affordable opportunities to do so and any time you have a group of people that make wonderful music together and bring that to audiences, both performers and audiences share a beautiful gift! "

About Masquerade
Our members are all professional musicians from both sides of the US and Canadian border. Many of the current members sang together in a group for many years that performed a Wassail Feast in Essex County, Canada as well as an annual Christmas concert in Windsor. Three years ago, the group took a sabbatical after losing a few members. A few members (Sarah Jane Kish, Vicki Frederick, Eileen MacDonald and Rachael Rose) got together last year just after Christmas with the feeling that "Christmas just wasn't Christmas" without the unique group.
