This week Detroit Public Television (DPTV) is celebrating everything local with the premiere of several new programs starting tonight with Maggie Allesee Dance on Detroit at 7:30 p.m.

In this third episode, Maggie and filmmaker R. Drew Fezzey, explore the hard work, dedication, and years of training that are required to be a professional dancer. Meet a crosssection of Detroit's most successful dancers and learn how they began, persevere, and deal with the demands of the art form.

Among the companies featured are Shen Wei Dance Art, Eisenhower Dance, Momix, Northville Ballet, Timberlane Dance, Dance Theater of Harlem, and Hardcore Detroit.

Dance on Detroit will be followed by the thrilling premiere of the Graveyard of the Great Lakes at 8:00 p.m. The film recounts the story of David Trotter, who has discovered nearly 100 shipwrecks in his 35 years of exploring the Great Lakes. Filmmaker Eric Seals spent nearly two years documenting the story of the 74-year-old Trotter, Michigan's maritime history and people's fascination with shipwrecks. Each discovery brings tales of lost souls, heroes and survivors.

This documentary is about of three of the many shipwrecks he's found on Lake Huron. You'll learn about the life and death struggle aboard for the sailors, the heroic connection to the past and the story of a lone survivor. The film will also stream live on DPTV at www.dptv.org.

Stay tuned for even more local programs this week. It's all One Detroit (#OneDetroit) -- telling the stories of the people and places that make our city and state truly remarkable.
