Magenta Giraffe Theatre Company of Detroit presents Love is Strange, by Sean Paraventi, directed by Frannie Shepherd-Bates. The show runs from April 4-26, 2014. Tickets are $15-$18, with pay-what-you-can tickets available to all performances. Tickets may be reserved by phone at 313-408-7269 or at www.magentagiraffe.org. Love is Strange will be Magenta Giraffe's sixth production in residence at the Abreact Performance Space (1301 W. Lafayette, #113, Detroit, MI 48226). As the space is very intimate, reservations are strongly suggested.

This twisted love story, from the playwright who previously brought The Current to the Magenta Giraffe audience, explores a passionate but deeply disturbed relationship between two lovers with a horrifying hobby. As the story reaches its climax, everything we think we know about victims and predators is called into question, and we are forced to look for answers in our own dark places. This play contains mature content that may be shocking to some audience members, including violence, sexuality, and graphic language. No minors will be admitted without a parent present.

"I didn't set out to be shocking or disturbing with Love Is Strange," says playwright Sean Paraventi. "I just tried to get to know the characters and let them tell the story. The play took me to many dark places, but once I committed to the subject matter, I committed one hundred percent. I know this play isn't for everyone, but it's a work I'm proud of. Magenta Giraffe has assembled an incredible cast, crew and director, and I can't wait to see what they do with it."

The cast of Love is Strange includes Chris Jakob (Ypsilanti), Allison Megroet (Ferndale), Joel Mitchell (Berkley), and Katie Terpstra (Ypsilanti). Scenic design is by Gwen Lindsay (Grosse Pointe), and costumes are by Lauren Montgomery (Dearborn).
