An original play by Stephen Douglas Wright, Journey to the Stars, will be making its world premiere at Dog Story Theater in Grand Rapids, from July 9-12. In this lighthearted comedy, Peter is a clever little boy, sick and tired of being poor, who dreams of escaping his dull life full of words-of-the-day, lessons in manners, and endless bowls of peas, to skate on Saturn's rings and dance amongst the stars. Then one day, he's noticed by the lovely, but vain, moon and star. Accompanied by an insect-inventor named Greg the Grasshopper, they escape their lowly lives on an adventure to the Palace in the Sky, but when Peter's cleverness gets the best of him, he ends up on the run, with the whole earth on the line! Is Peter clever enough to dig himself out of the mess he's made?

With a wily, yet light-spirited humor that the whole family can enjoy, Journey to the Stars will delight children of all ages.

Directed by Stephen Douglas Wright and Assistant Directed by Rachel Varley, the cast of Journey to the Stars features Laura Anys (Peter), Scott Pell (Greg the Grasshopper), Aimee Shemanski (Star/Mr. Whoosawhatsit), Stephen Douglas Wright (Sun/Monkey King), Brittany Devon (Moon/Mama/Meanie), and Mariah Cowsert (Julia/Hopper/Monkey Mama).

Journey to the Stars is the first of five original plays being presented by Grand Rapids playwright Stephen Douglas Wright as part of his 1YR Theatre Company project. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door or at dogstorytheater.com. Dog Story Theater is located at 7 Jefferson Ave SE in Grand Rapids. Curtain for evening performances are Thursday July 9 through Saturday July 11 at 7PM. Saturday July 11 and Sunday July 12 matinees begin at 3PM.
