Amor is in the air when the cast of the smash-hit "In The Heights" perform in a very special benefit concert for Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids and the John F. Kennedy School PTA in Ferndale. Hosted by Detroit's-own Linda Lexy, the benefit takes place on Monday, February 7 (7 p.m.) at The Loving Touch in Ferndale.
Attendees can support a good cause as they enjoy an intimate evening featuring a cabaret-style performance by the cast of the "In The Heights" National Tour - who are currently in town performing at the Fisher Theatre. Hosted by Linda Lexy, the evening will also feature a silent auction which will also allow guests to bid on some items graciously donated by local businesses. Singer/songwriter Steven Mullan closes out the evening with a performance. A cash bar is available during the evening.
The winner of four Tony Awards, "In The Heights" is musical that builds on the best traditions of theater while forging into fresh new territory. It is a musical about the importance of home, family and finding where you belong. In the Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant community in Manhattan's Washington Heights - a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. "In The Heights" continues its run at Detroit's Fisher Theatre February 8-13.
Linda Lexy has been a staple on the Detroit music scene for many years brilliantly taking on the roles of broadcaster, DJ, emcee and event host throughout her career. Lexy is currently a Feature DJ at the Motor City Casino's Radio Bar every Friday and Saturday where she broadcasts live and casino-wide from 6-10 p.m.
Whether he is playing solo or with his band, Steven Mullan's shows are always powerful and intimate. The 23 year-old singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist has performed on tours with A.R. Rahman (recent Golden Globe and Academy Award Winning Composer for Slumdog Millionaire), jazz legend Dave Brubeck, and the Pittsburgh based Caleb Lovely Band. Spending many of his months in 2010 touring the nation, he is now working on producing his debut album, "We're Not Old." Finishing up last year playing over 230 gigs, this Ann Arbor musician loves to play music, and his live show is proof of this.
Admission for the event is $10 cover charge at the door. All funds raised at the event (admission and silent auction) will benefit Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS and Ferndale's John F Kennedy Elementary School PTA.
The Loving Touch is located at 22634 Woodward Avenue in Ferndale
