Harbor Springs Area Historical Society to Explore the History of the Mackinac Bridge

The Mackinac Bridge is one of Michigan's most recognizable structures. Completed in 1957, the "Mighty Mac" paved the way for tourism and economic development between the Upper and Lower peninsulas.

The Harbor Springs Area Historical Society invites you to learn more about this engineering marvel at their next Harbor History Talk on Thursday, January 19, 2017, featuring Bob Sweeney, Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer for the Mackinac Bridge Authority.

Sweeney's presentation, "The Past, Present and Future Challenges of the Mackinac Bridge," will cover the history of the bridge along with stories from his decades of service with the Mackinac Bridge Authority. Mr. Sweeney's career has spanned more than thirty years in a variety of positions in the transportation industry. Prior to his appointment at the Mackinac Bridge he was the engineer in charge of the six-county Michigan Department of Transportation Cadillac office. He holds a civil engineering degree from Michigan State University and is a licensed engineer.

Sweeney's talk will begin at 5:30pm on the second floor of the Harbor Springs History Museum, 349 E. Main Street, and refreshments will be provided. Admission to the talk is $5 for adults and free for current Historical Society members.
