Downtown Grand Haven ushers in holiday season on Friday, November 18th with the annual Light Night celebration. Now in its ninth year, Grand Haven Main Street merchants host shoppers for a festive evening with seasonal music, holiday treats, and a variety of special offers and treats from 5pm to 8pm. Free shopping tote bags will be available for the first 500 shoppers.

Free hot cocoa, mulled cider, and popcorn will help warm visitors as they browse among the twinkling lights and festive displays while enjoying seasonal music from strolling carolers and a local radio station. A complimentary shuttle will transport patrons around the different areas of Grand Haven Main Street's shopping district, where you can find gifts for everyone on your list.

"It's a great time to get started on holiday shopping, with special deals at many of the stores," explained Diane Sheridan, Executive Director of Grand Haven Main Street. "In addition to providing exceptional service, these locally-owned retailers offer truly unique gift ideas, so shoppers can avoid 'ho ho hum' gifts from mass retailers."

Sheridan applauds the City of Grand Haven and all the Main Street merchants who create "such an enchanting magical environment with all the twinkling lights and greenery." She also reminds visitors that the first three blocks of Washington Avenue features a snowmelt system that provides a safe driving and walking environment for shopping and celebrating downtown.

Sharon Behm, co-owner of Borr's Shoes & Accessories, reminds visitors that "48% of your dollars stay local when you shop at independent retailers, versus 13.6% when shopping at chain. When you shop at Light Night, you're giving a gift to the community in addition to those on your list."

Grand Haven's historic downtown district is located along the waterfront near Lake Michigan, about 30 miles west of Grand Rapids. Grand Haven Main Street is a Downtown Development Authority that hosts a variety of events throughout the year in support of their mission to "enhance a vibrant historic business district through community efforts, plus public and private partnerships."
