Everyone wants to go home. Written by Horton Foote, "The Trip to Bountiful" is the story of Mrs. Carrie Watts, an elderly woman who wants nothing more than to return home...to Bountiful, the small, Texas town where she grew up. Her overprotective son and boss daughter-in-law want her to remain in Houston, but Mrs. Watts is determined, and once her mind is made up, there's no stopping her. While on the road, she befriends a young traveler, Thelma, whom she entertains with stories of her past.

Meadow Brook Theatre is pleased to welcome the return of many MBT veterans for this award-winning show. Mary Benson returns as Mrs. Carrie Watts, familiar to audiences from her past performances, including several years as Mrs. Cratchit in the annual production of "A Christmas Carol" and starring in the critically acclaimed "All My Sons." Her son and daughter-in-law are played by newcomer Jim Porterfield (Ludie Watts) and Barbara Coven (Jessie Mae Watts). Other familiar faces include Wayne David Parker (First Houston Ticket Man) and Paul Hopper (Sheriff). Making their MBT debuts are Julianne Somers (Thelma), Sam Zepik (Second Houston Ticket Man) and Henry Nelson (Harrison Ticket Man). Rounding out the cast as various Travelers are Remy, Lauren Coleman, Henry Nelson, Katie Jo Schaub and Becky Shelton.

Director Dennis E. North is pleased to return to Meadow Brook Theatre, where he directed last season's successful "Moonlight and Magnolias."

Terry W. Carpenter, Meadow Brook Theatre's associate director, is the stage manager. The design team includes: sets by Scott Aronow, costumes by Liz Moore, lighting by Reid G. Johnson and sound by Mike Duncan.

Tickets range from $24 to $39 and are available by calling the Meadow Brook Theatre box office at 248-377-3300 or online through TicketMaster at www.ticketmaster.com. Group discounts are available by calling 248-370-3316. The schedule includes an audio-described performance on Saturday, March 28 at 2:00 p.m. and an American Sign Language interpreted performance on Wednesday, April 1 at 8:00 p.m.
"The Trip to Bountiful" is made possible though the generous sponsorship of Extended Stay Hotels, AT&T, the Meadow Brook Theatre Guild and the Observer and Eccentric Newspapers. Special thanks goes to TCF Banks for a grant to purchase new assistive listening devices, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the show.
