Farmington Players Announce 2009-2010 Season Running October-May

Presenting quality theater at affordable prices is a Farmington Players' tradition - one that began in 1953 and continues with the staging of four memorable shows for the 2009-2010 season, beginning in October and running through May.

The new season opens with the Mitch Albom comedy, "And the Winner Is." The show, which runs October 2nd to October 17th, is a poignant tale of discovering the things in life that are truly important. It involves an arrogant movie star, Tyler Johnes, who wakes up in a mysterious bar, only to learn he died the night before he could have won an Oscar.

In November, The Farmington Players will perform the classic holiday story, "Miracle on 34th Street," continuing a "Barn" tradition of family-oriented seasonal fare, timed for the holidays. While most people are familiar with the movie, the stage adaptation of "Miracle" is relatively new, putting a fresh theatrical spin on a holiday favorite - running November 20th - December 13th.

This winter, The Players return with one of the most enduring comedies onstage, the George Kaufman/Moss Hart favorite, "You Can't Take it With You." This Pulitzer-Prize winning show presents the hilarious sequence of events that transpires when two very different families come together for the marriage of their respective son and daughter. February 12th - March 6th.

The season concludes next spring with the Stephen Sondheim/Jule Styne musical, "Gypsy." Set during the vaudeville era, it is based on the memoirs of the legendary Gypsy Rose Lee. It features both a memorable score and equally compelling characters. Shows dates are from April 30th - May 22nd.

Season ticket packages for all four shows are available for the discounted rate of $58. Individual shows are priced at just $15 ($18 for musicals) with senior discounts ($2.00 off) available for the opening Sunday matinees, Thursday shows discounted ($2.00 off) for ALL patrons, and student discounts ($2.00 off) on all performances. Groups of 10 or more qualify for a $2.00 off discount per ticket, for any performance.

Bonus Entertainment at the Barn ...

The Barn will also host two other special performances in the coming season. First up - a magic show on November 15 (3:00 p.m.), featuring one of the country's top magicians, in town for the annual Motor City Magic convention. Sponsored by McCabe Funeral Home, tickets are just $10 in advance for a family-oriented show combining humor and magic ($12 at door).

Then, on March 19-21, The Players will bring out their Irish spirit with a three-performance, Michigan-premiere of the heartfelt play, "From the Mountains of Mourne," by acclaimed playwright, Lisa Hayes. It's the story of the Irish immigrants who helped make this country great. It combines storytelling, music, drama, and laughter as only a good Irish yarn can. Tickets are just $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

The new Farmington Players Barn Theater was completed in 2003 and provides an intimate setting with modern amenities. It is located on the north side of 12 Mile Road, halfway between Orchard Lake and Farmington Roads.
