Michigan's longest running, non-profit, professional theatre is excited to announce the 2015/2016 Season - a Season of powerful subject matter presented with humor and hope for a better world.
The Detroit Repertory Theatre will kick off its 59th Season on November 5, 2015 with a Champagne Celebration and toast to the four plays: a comedy about environmental activism and the disappearance of maple syup; a critically acclaimed Civil War comedy based on actual events; a fanciful, supernatural gem about horseracing, woman power and racial tolerance; and finally, a brilliant depiction of people we look away from every day and know nothing about - the homeless.
Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 8:30 PM, Saturdays at 3 PM and 8:30 PM, and Sundays at 2 PM and 7:30 PM. Tickets will remain among the most affordable for professional theatre in the region at $17 in advance, and subscriptions remain the unheard of price of $100 for two for a year. Bargain Books are booklets of ten tickets and are still available for $100 and $110.

*Special Performance Red Night Benefit February 13, 2016*

Uproariously funny, witty and very moving, BUTLER is written by the author of last season's hit comedy, BUZZ. Based on actual events that changed the lives of 10,000 slaves, BUTLER is set at the beginning of the Civil War and follows Major General Benjamin Butler, who has just been given command of Fort Monroe in Virginia. The inexperienced but shrewd Butler meets his match when an equally shrewd runaway slave enters the fort and asks for asylum.

by Dan McCormick

Directed by Lynch R. Travis
A homeless man and a homeless woman, both aged beyond their years, share a desolate space with the feel of a world that is not quite real, with two park benches, two overstuffed carts, scattered litter, milk crates, buckets, a trashcan and of course, whiskey. What is truth and what is imagined is always a question. Two unreachable people touch.
