The World Premiere production of HERB THE GREEN KNIGHT, a comedy about a common man moved to action when he learns Global Warming is destroying maple trees, and thus his beloved maple syrup, will open at the Detroit Repertory Theatre on Thursday November 05, 2015 at 8:30 PM. This opening is extra special because the playwright Emory Wilson will be in attendance with his son. As is tradition for Opening Nights at the Rep, a complimentary Champagne Afterglow will follow the play with the playwright, cast and crew.

The Detroit Repertory Theatre is proud to announce Quicken Loans is Production Sponsor of HERB THE GREEN KNIGHT. Tickets are only $17 advance for Opening Night, the same affordable price as all regular performances. The show will run Thursdays through Sundays until December 27, 2015. Purchase tickets by calling the Box Office at (313) 868-1347, or visit www.detroitreptheatre.com for more information. The Detroit Rep has been located in the geographical heart of the city for over 58 years and has lighted, guarded, free parking.

Herb discovers Climate Change is having dire effects on production of his beloved maple syrup. Suddenly he is determined to fight Global Warming. He institutes personal energy reductions but is stymied in his efforts to enlist his wife and two kids in his noble efforts. So he begins a wild campaign of outreach which includes dressing as a banana tree and a Knight in Green, flying a green banner atop the statehouse and getting arrested.

Herb's wife, Marge, who is a real estate agent has her hands full trying to keep her household from falling into chaos. What with her husband, Herb, who has become a Green Knight climate crusader, a teenage daughter, Becca, who sings in a garage band and a teen son, Twirk, who is crazy for big-rig drag racing she has to be a coping whirlwind. How she manages this internal household "real estate" is a sight to behold if not a miracle. Great fun with serious intent underneath.

Resident Scene Designer and Director, Harry Wetzel, is the director of the zany comedy. Last season he directed the hit comedy, BUZZ.

Harry's cast for HERB THE GREEN KNIGHT features Roosevelt Johnson as Herb. Roosevelt is a Rep veteran returning to our stage after last appearing in ANGELIQUE in 1999. Kelly Pino is Herb's wife, Marge. Kelly won the Subscriber Award for her work in NOCTURNE FOR A SOUTHERN LADY in 2000. Jeffrey Chastang portrays the Voice. Jeffrey returns to the Detroit Repertory Theatre stage after almost 20 years. He was last seen in the Rep's 1998 production of FENCES. Lulu Dahl is the teenage daughter, Becca. Lulu has become a member of the Rep company more recently. Her Detroit Rep credits include: MY SOLDIERS, DEAD AND BURIED and A PARADISE OF FOOLS. Dan Johnson is the teenage son, Twirk. Dan, like Lulu, is a newer member of the company. His Rep credits include BROTHER OF ALL and the title character in last season's Rep production, BUZZ.

HERB THE GREEN KNIGHT opens the Detroit Repertory Theatre's 59th Season on November 5th and runs every Thursday through Sunday until December 27, 2015.

The oldest professional (Union) non-profit theatre in the State of Michigan, the Detroit Repertory Theatre's mission is guided by the belief that the sense of community is stronger than the forces that splinter and that efforts to preserve unity deserve the same attention and support as the justly cultivated efforts to retain diversity.
The implicit goal in all the theatre's efforts is to produce the best possible professional theatre while fostering cultural democratization of the arts, and fighting by example, the disturbing level of racism that still exists. Detroit Repertory Theatre is located in the geographical heart of the city at 13103 Woodrow Wilson, Detroit, MI 48238. Parking is attended, lighted, fenced-in and free.
