Detroit Repertory Theatre Premieres WHITE ASH FALLING 9/11 Tonight

Another World Premiere production will debut on the Detroit Repertory Theatre stage tonight, May 28. WHITE ASH FALLING 9/11 by Thom Molyneaux will be the fourth and final World Premiere production of the Theatre's 58th Season.

Opening Night includes a free Champagne afterglow with the cast, crew and the playwright, who is traveling from New Jersey with his family to attend his premiere. This is an exciting chance to be the first to witness this behind-the-scenes drama that sheds light on the fine line between life and art.

WHITE ASH FALLING 9/11 will run until June 28, 2015. WHITE ASH FALLING 9/11 focuses on three actors as they prepare for an off-Broadway production about the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Richard is a talented and intelligent actor who's more concerned with artistry than the size of his paycheck; Julie is a successful actress who hasn't let it get to her head; and Gwen is a renowned and attractive character actor whose work is well-known. As these three actors prep for their pending show, their personal experiences and exposures to the trauma of 9/11 are revealed in the dressing room, and the devastating effects are then carried with them onstage, informing their performances. In an example of life imitating art (imitating life), this intriguing drama is akin to a theatrical nesting doll, containing actors playing actors ... playing actors.

WHITE ASH FALLING 9/11 is directed by Lynch Travis (DEARBORN). Last season Mr. Travis directed the highly praised Rep production about Cherokee legends, BROTHER OF ALL. His cast for WHITE ASH FALLING 9/11 features Harold Uriah Hogan (SOUTHFIELD), Janee´ Ann Smith (RIVER ROUGE), and Kathryn Mahard (FLINT). Last season Mr. Hogan performed in BROTHER OF ALL; Ms. Smith performed in both MY OCCASION OF SIN and ENDANGERED SPECIES; Ms. Mahard performed in MY OCCASION OF SIN.

Yolanda Jack (DETROIT) will make her Stage Manager debut with the production of "WHITE ASH"; Harry Wetzel (DEARBORN) is the set designer; Sandra Landfair (DEARBORN) is the costume designer; Tom Schraeder (BEVERLY HILLS) is the lighting designer; Burr Huntington (ROYAL OAK) is the sound designer.
