Tonight, February 14, 2015, the Detroit Repertory Theatre welcomes the public to an evening of drama, music, romance, sweets and champagne at the Board of Trustees' annual "RED NIGHT" benefit beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 each and include the powerful and critically acclaimed play SWEET PEA'S MAMA, unlimited Champagne, hors d'oeuvres, the "Irma Wertz Patron of the Year" Award, and exciting packages to be raffled off. Call 313-868-1347 for RED NIGHT reservations and information. Proceeds from the evening will go to operational support of the Rep. The Detroit Repertory Theatre is located at 13103 Woodrow Wilson in the heart of Detroit, 48238. More information may be found at detroitreptheatre.com.

Everyone attending is encouraged to wear their "Reddest Red" attire and will enjoy champagne and hors d'oeuvres in the intimate, candle-lit atmosphere of the theatre's art gallery and lobby cocktail lounge. Onstage, the theatre will present the Wertz Patron of the Year Award followed by the powerful play SWEET PEA'S MAMA by Robert Lawrence Nelson. After the show, guests enjoy champagne and sweets as the Board of Trustees announce the raffle and "Reddest Red" winners.

About SWEET PEA'S MAMA - Coralee is a maid for Abigail and her family. Among other things she cares for Georgie, Abigail's grown developmentally challenged son whom she affectionately calls Sweet Pea. On the day Martin Luther King, Jr. is assassinated a tragedy occurs in Abigail's home as well that has a devastating effect on everyone, including Coralee's angry young son, Jerome. In the end racial dignity and familial love are put to an ultimate test. Robert Lawrence Nelson's play puts racial indignity and mental challenge in striking juxtaposition. The effect is both disturbing and enlightening. Rare insights occur and stereotypes get jarred. You will not leave the Theatre unscathed.

The Board of Trustees welcomes the public to join us at RED NIGHT for a unique evening of theatre, romance, music and a meaningful participation in Detroit Repertory Theatre's 58th Anniversary celebrations.

About the Rep - The oldest professional (Union) non-profit theatre in the State of Michigan, the Detroit Repertory Theatre's mission is guided by the belief that the sense of community is stronger than the forces that splinter and that efforts to preserve unity deserve the same attention and support as the justly cultivated efforts to retain diversity. The implicit goal in all the theatre's efforts is to produce the best possible professional theatre while fostering cultural democratization of the arts, and fighting by example, the disturbing level of racism that still exists. Detroit Repertory Theatre is located in the geographical heart of the city at 13103 Woodrow Wilson, Detroit, MI 48238. Parking is Attended, Lighted, Fenced-In and Free. Call (313) 868-1347 or visit www.detroitreptheatre.com for more information.
