The World Premiere of Kermit Frazier's powerful play Firepower will have a Champagne Celebration on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the Detroit Repertory Theatre at 8:30 pm. Opening Nights at the Rep are always full of camaraderie and celebration. This one will be no different.

Guests are invited to join in a Champagne toast in the elegant lobby gallery of the Theatre after the show with the cast, crew and playwright who will be in attendance for Opening Night. Mr. Frazier will also attend the following evening's performance on Friday, January 06 at 8:30 pm. Audiences are invited to attend and shake his hand both nights.

Tickets are still the lowest prices for professional theatre in the region at $17 advance or $20 day of performance, and may be purchased by calling (313) 868-1347. Firepower will run Thursdays through Sundays until March 12, 2017. More information may be found at www.detroitreptheatre.com.

Firepower. It's 1989 in Washington, D.C. With an important piece of legislation pending, treatment for a serious illness about to begin, and engagement to a woman half his age in the balance, a first-term African American City Councilman is visited by his two adult sons, the younger one a gay man who must find a way to come out to his father, the older one an ex-football star who has been living out of the country and out of touch for nearly twenty years. Both sons, in addition, carry a long-held secret agreement that is destined to explode in their father's face.

The author, Kermit Frazier, has had nearly twenty plays produced in New York and around the country at such theatres as the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Baltimore Center Stage, Williamstown Theatre Festival, the Philadelphia Drama Guild, and Woodie King Jr.'s New Federal Theatre. The Rep production of Firepower is a World Premiere. About the Production Resident company member, Lynch Travis, is the Director of Firepower. Last season he directed the highly praised production, Homeless and How We Got That Way.

His cast for Firepower features four performers familiar to Repertory Theatre audiences and two newcomers. David Glover and Casaundra Freeman were both last seen in the Rep production A Facility for Living. William Bryson was last seen in Brother of All and Daniel Johnson was last seen in Herb The Green Knight. The two newcomers to the Rep stage are Jennifer Cole and Jonathon West.

All Tickets, Fundraisers, Bargain Booklets, and Subscriptions remain the most affordable prices for not-for-profit professional theatre in theRegion. General admission is $17 in advance and $20 for regular admission -- all seats, all performances.

The Rep's "Anytime, Multi-Use" Gold Double Subscription for two is the unmatched price of $100 and a Silver Single Person Subscription is $50.

10-ticket Bargain Booklets, Regular and Matinee are $110 and $100 respectively and make great mini-fundraisers.

For tickets, fundraisers and information call or visit the Rep Box office, 313*868*1347. Tickets can be purchased by phone using Visa or MasterCard. There is no surcharge.

The oldest professional (Union) non-profit theatre in the State of Michigan, the Detroit Repertory Theatre's mission is guided by the belief that the sense of community is stronger than the forces that splinter and that efforts to preserve unity deserve the same attention and support as the justly cultivated efforts to retain diversity. The implicit goal in all the theatre's efforts is to produce the best possible professional theatre while fostering cultural democratization of the arts, and fighting by example, the disturbing level of racism that still exists.

Detroit Repertory Theatre is located in the geographical heart of the city at 13103 Woodrow Wilson, Detroit, MI 48238. Parking is Attended, Lighted, Fenced-In and Free. Visit (313) 868-1347 or go to www.detroitreptheatre.com for more information.
